Biography

Steve Townsen is principal engineer for Engineering Services and acting city engineer for the City of Portland Bureau of Transportation, a position he has held for the last 12 months. He is responsible for five sections within the bureau dealing with surveying, traffic, structures, civil design, and construction/inspection. He previously served four years as supervising engineer and three years as senior engineering associate for the Construction/Inspection section.

He previously worked for the Bureau of Environmental Services and in the private sector. Townsen is the current chair of the Board for the Civil Engineering Cooperative Program and also serves on the MECOP Executive Board. A registered professional engineer in ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ, Steve also holds degrees in mathematics and mathematics education from OSU. He taught and coached at North Bend High School for three years before returning to OSU to complete his engineering degree.
